Council Elections 2017

 

There are 5 student led councils in the Students' Union. Each council represents a different area of the SU, with between 10-15 students per council, working together to organise events, co-ordinate events, and increase engagement and communication in SUBU. If you would like to run in our council elections, make sure you familiarise yourself with what each council does, and the roles that are available. This is the Council that brought you Refreshers' Fair. As a Part-Time Officer on the Activities Council, it would be your responsibility to liaise with clubs, societies and networks under your role and organise campaigns/events to promote extra-curricular activities on Talbot and Lansdowne Campus, making sure hard-to-reach students are included. Being a Part-Time Officer is roughly 3-4 hours of voluntary time a week. You will be supported with your campaigns/events by the Vice President Activities, as well as a number of staff in the Activities Team and Democracy and Equality Team.

This council is there to help students with community issues; everything from housing issues, to the environment to volunteering opportunities for students in the local community. As a Part-Time Officer on the community council, you would organise campaigns/events to address these issues across Talbot and Lansdowne Campus, making sure hard-to-reach students are included. Being a Part-Time Officer is roughly 3-4 hours of voluntary time a week. You will be supported with your campaigns/events by the Vice President Community, as well as a number of staff in the Community Team, Advice Team and Democracy and Equality Team.

This is the Council that brought you Video Recorded Lectures. It would be your responsibility to champion and improve the learning experience of students at Bournemouth University. Whether you are interested in enterprise and want to support the development of entrepreneurs at BU, or are interested in assessment and feedback quality, then the Education Council will provide you the platform to make a real difference to the student experience at BU. Being a Part-Time Officer is roughly 3-4 hours of voluntary time a week. You will be supported with your initiatives/campaigns by the Vice President Education, as well as a number of staff in the Insight and Policy Team and Democracy and Equality Team.

This is the Council that highlighted the need for RAG and Volunteering Representatives specific to Lansdowne. While the Activities, Community, Education and Welfare Councils cover both Talbot and Lansdowne Campus, the Lansdowne Council has a specific focus on Lansdowne Campus. As a Part-Time Officer on the Lansdowne Council, it would be your responsibility to communicate with students studying at Lansdowne and organise campaigns/events within your role, to ensure Lansdowne-based students have specific opportunities and events that take into consideration busier timetables. Being a Part-Time Officer is roughly 3-4 hours of voluntary time a week. You will be supported with your campaigns/events by the President, Lansdowne Executive Chair and Lansdowne Communications Executive; as well as the Lansdowne Campus Manager and Democracy and Equality Team.

This is the Council that brought you One World Day and BU’s first Student Pride. As a Part-Time Officer on the Welfare Council, it would be your responsibility to communicate with students and students from liberation groups, on their welfare and wellbeing and organise campaigns/events to address these issues, on Talbot and Lansdowne Campus, making sure hard-to-reach students are included. There are opportunities to work on your own individual projects as well as council-wide campaigns. Being a Part-Time Officer is roughly 3-4 hours of voluntary time a week. You will be supported with your campaigns/events by the Vice President Welfare, Welfare Executive Chair and Welfare Communications Executive; as well as a number of staff in the Democracy and Equality Team.
