In partnership with the full-time Sabbatical Officers, the Exec Committee lead decisions about the future of SUBU, continuing with their studies at the same time as volunteering with SUBU.
Executive Officers are therefore essentially non-sabbatical activists whom SUBU supports with resources, professional expertise and staff time; they help make general or specific changes for the students that they represent and more broadly serve directing SUBU and responding to University plans.
Key Responsibilities of the Executive Committee
If elected, you will be expected to proactively champion the rights and needs of SUBU members. You will help lead the development and oversight of SUBU’s work and support Full-Time Union Officers and Students’ Union staff deliver relevant campaigns and policies. You will talk to students electronically and face-to-face and share their concerns and ideas with the relevant groups or to sign-post them to the relevant people.
You will be expected to be professional in fulfilling your elected role and duties, staying within the policy and procedures of the Students’ Union at all times when representing students or the Students’ Union.
This is a part time unpaid position, but Executive Officers are expected to attend Exec Committee meetings for one hour every two weeks; beyond this, you are free to choose how much time you dedicate to the position.
