What is the Green Taskforce?
The Green Taskforce is a student body which expands from the former Bournemouth University Green Students Society. The Taskforce work to improve the environment both at BU and in the local community and raise awareness of all Green issues, students can actively help through a variety of activities, ranging from beach cleans to helping to maintain wildlife gardens in local primary schools!
We host several annual events on campus, as well as advocating for national awareness days. In 2015, there were the first Green Awards which celebrated all of the groups and individuals who have worked tirelessly to improve the community.
Coffee Cups - to encourage everyone to use their own reusable cups, to prevent the use of paper and wax cups, that coffee shops use, which cannot be recycled and end up in a landfill.
Fairtrade Awareness - to help people to understand what Fairtrade is, and how we can all contribute to the initiative, and help oversea's traders out of poverty in 3rd world countries.
Plastic Oceans - to raise awareness of the pollution in our oceans which are turning in to a plastic soup, harming the environment, and our food chain.
Divestment Away From Fossil Fuels - to campaign against organisations, who make financial investments with other organisations, who profit from industry which plunders the Earth's natural resources, e.g., oil (fossil fuel).
Education for Sustainable Development - to campaign and lobby the university, for all courses to have sustainability units, as part of their course, and to encourage students to seek career paths with organisations who have a high standard of ethical and sustainable practice.
Ethical Food - to educate people about the production of food via ethical and sustainable methods, and how to make more ethical choices about the food we eat.
